Lent is a time for contemplation and renewal. Throughout the next six weeks, friars will share a reflection on the upcoming Sunday's Gospel. Each session will ask "Who is this 'Good News' for in 2024?". The friar-presenters will draw on the Franciscan intellectual tradition to explore the timeless relevance of the Gospel.
In this week's Gospel reflection, Roger Lopez, OFM, and Greg Friedman, OFM, explore Jesus' contemplation of his passion.
A native of Florida, Br Roger was initially drawn to the diocesan priesthood. Like many younger friars, he met the Franciscans through the internet, and joined the Order in 2009. After his initial formation, he lived and worker at Roger Bacon Franciscan High School in Cincinnati for eight years where he taught religion and was Director of Community Outreach. In October 2023 he was appointed to the Provincial Council of the new Province of Our Lady of Guadalupe. He currently is based in Oceanside, California.
Franciscan Father Greg Friedman is a friar of Our Lady of Guadalupe Province, based in Albuquerque, NM. An author and journalist, he has guided pilgrims in both Italy and the Holy Land. He served as editor of The Holy Land Review, the official magazine of the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land, from 2017-2020. He offers video reflections on the Sunday readings at www.usccb.org.
