April 12, 1228.a As a result there are certain passages that reflect tensions or changes that occurred during these years. Nevertheless, the Form and Manner of Life is most helpful in providing many insights into those communities of religious women in the central Italian peninsula of the early thirteenth century. It also enables us to appreciate Saint Clare’s desire to have her own Rule with its insistence upon poverty and mutual charity officially recognized by the Church.
