Fragments - 89

27Let us, therefore, hold onto the words, the life, the teaching and the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ Who humbled Himself to beg His Father for us and to make His name known saying: Father, I have made Your name known to those whom You have given me. Jn 17:6 ET CETERA UNTIL: 28Father, I wish that those whom You have given me may be where I am that they may see Your glory in Your kingdom. Jn 17:24 Mt 20:21 29Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

30Let them express the delight for the poor that they have for one another as the Apostle says: Let us not love in word or speech, Jn 17:24 ET CETERA.

31Let all the brothers, wherever they may be or may go, avoid evil glances and association with women. Let no one counsel them. FURTHER ON: 32Let us all keep close watch over ourselves and keep all our members clean, for the Lord says: Whoever looks at a woman with lust, Mt 5:28 ET CETERA.

FURTHER ON:

33When the brothers go through the world, let them take nothing for the journey, neither knapsack nor purse, nor bread, nor money, Lk 10:4 Lk 9:3 nor walking stick. FURTHER DOWN: 34[Let them not resist anyone evil, but whoever strikes them on one cheek, Mt 10:10 let them offer] him the other as well. 35[Whoever takes their cloak and tunic, let them not withhold, Mt 5:39 Lk 6:29] and whoever [takes] what is [theirs, let them not take it back. Lk 6:30

36The brothers who] go with the permission of their minister can live spiritually among nonbelievers in two ways. 37One way is not to engage in arguments or disputes but to be subject to every human creature for God’s sake 1 Pt 2:13 and to acknowledge they are Christians. 38The other way is to announce the Word of God, when they see it pleases God, in order that they may believe in the all-powerful God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

FURTHER ON:

39Let all my brothers, wherever they may be, remember that they have given themselves and abandoned their bodies to the Lord Jesus Christ. 40For love of Him, they must endure persecution and death from their enemies, both visible and invisible, ET CETERA.

FURTHER ON:

41Let the brothers preach in every way. 42No minister or preacher may make a ministry of the brothers or the office of preaching his own, but, when he is told, let him set it aside without objection. 43In the love that is God, 1 Jn 4:16 therefore, I beg all my brothers—those who preach, pray, or work, cleric or lay—to strive to humble themselves in everything,

Amen.
